Although camping is meant to be first and foremost a relaxing venture, anyone of any physical background may find that camping in the outdoors all day can take quite a bit out of them.
If you’re feeling like you’re already tired during the day at a camping trip, there are plenty of ways to beat the blues and keep your day going. You’ll find that most of them are easy to perform, as the resources you need are more than likely going to be readily available.
1. Stay Hydrated
It’s probably something you don’t think about enough outside of the campground as it is, but staying hydrated when you’re outside in the sun all day is extremely important. Apart from the obvious need that your body has for water, it can also mean the difference between feeling well and aware and feeling ready for a nap.
The whole “eight glasses a day” of water is poorly supported, as everyone has different needs. Listen to your body and act accordingly. There are plenty of excellent products for campers out there; most notably Klean Kanteen products. Ranging in all kinds of sizes, you can keep your water by you at all times when you go out hiking or are just sitting by the fire.
Now don’t get too excited when you’re told to just go ahead and eat. Mindful eating, not overeating is important for feeling energy throughout the day. Small meals every couple of hours keep your metabolism and energy going the way you want it to be when you’re out on a kayak or on a hiking trip. Keep a balanced intake of carbs, fruits, vegetables and protein to maintain your energy.
3. Try a morning walk or jog
If you assume that exercising makes you more tired, think again. Research shows that low-intensity exercise helps battle bouts of fatigue by enacting your nervous system more. You don’t need to go all out to give yourself the energy that you need. When you wake up after your first night of camping, take a walk or break out your bike for a quick ride and get the body going. You’ll come back feeling ready to go for all of the day’s activities.
